What you should know before traveling to Kazakhstan

If you watched movie Borat, you may want to travel to Kazakhstan. Actually, there are no many similarities between the movie and the country. However, the movie increased the number of visitors of this country. You should know that Kazakhstan is the world’s 9th largest country. It has borders with: Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Russian and China. The size is 2.724.902km². The population is 16.402.861. The country code is +7.

Kazakhstan has open borders for citizens of many countries. Citizens from: Turkey, Russia, Serbia, Ukraine and several more countries, can enter in Kazakhstan without a visa. Since 15 July 2014, citizens from: the United States, the United Kingdom, South Korea and several more countries can enter in Kazakhstan without a visa as well. This lasts until 15 July 2016. However, they can stay no longer than 15 days. Citizens of some countries need a visa. It is a good decision to check with your embassy in order to determine do you need a visa.
The national carrier is Air Astana. It offers good connections with: Dubai, London, Istanbul, Frankfurt and several more cities. You can travel by train, but this requires a lot of time. For example, a trip from Moscow to Astana last 77 hours. So, it is a much better alternative to travel by plane.

The official languages are Kazakh and Russian. More than 90% of the population speaks Russian language. About 50% speak Kazakh language. Young people understand the English language.
The official currency is the tenge. You should know that it is hard to buy dollars in Kazakhstan. However, there are a lot of banks and ATMs.
